Day 1 – Arrival in Ulaanbaatar

Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, meet your guide, and transfer to your hotel (accommodation in UB on your own).

Day 2 – Fly to Western Mongolia

Fly to Ölgii and drive into Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, passing nomadic pastures. Overnight in a shared nomadic ger (yurt).

Day 3 – Altai Tavan Bogd Peaks & Glacier Walk

Travel to the stunning viewpoint of the Altai Tavan Bogd Peaks, then enjoy a short hike on the Potanin Glacier. Return to camp to relax.

Day 4 – Khoton & Khurgan Lakes (Altai Tavan Bogd National Park)

Drive to the crystal-clear Khoton and Khurgan Lakes. Camp by the water and enjoy swimming and photography.

Day 5 – UNESCO Petroglyphs & Waterfall Valley

Hike Bileu Tolgoi Mountain to explore one of Mongolia’s largest UNESCO petroglyph sites. Continue to Waterfall Valley to see ancient burial mounds. Overnight in a private ger.

Day 6 – Horseback Ride & Eagle Hunter Family (Ikh Turgen Waterfall Valley)

Enjoy a morning horseback ride to Turgen Waterfall. Continue to Dayan Valley to meet Kazakh eagle hunters and learn about their traditional lifestyle. Overnight tented camp.

Day 7 – Scenic Drive to Ölgii

Drive through Khargant Valley, Black Lake, and Modon Pass (3000 m). Arrive in Ölgii for hotel stay, the local black market, and traditional Kazakh food.

Day 8 – Return to Ulaanbaatar

Transfer to Khovd Airport for your flight back to Ulaanbaatar.

How difficult is this tour? Do I need to be physically fit?

This tour is moderately active. Travelers should be able to walk on uneven terrain, enjoy short hikes, ride horses for 1–3 hours, and handle rustic camping conditions. No technical climbing is required.

What is the accommodation like in Western Mongolia?

Accommodation varies:
Nomadic gers (yurts) – shared, simple, warm, authentic
Tented camping – provided by your crew
Private ger – at some locations
Hotel in Ölgii – clean and comportable
Facilities are basic but clean and give you a real nomadic experience.

Are toilets and showers available during the trip?

In remote areas, you will use outdoor camping toilets. Camping pump showers with a tent are provided with hot water.

What kind of food is provided?

You’ll enjoy freshly cooked meals prepared by a chef during the camping days.
Meals include rice, pasta, chicken, vegetables, soups, bread, and snacks.
Dietary restrictions (vegetarian, no beef/mutton, halal, etc.) can be arranged with prior notice.

Do I need prior horseback riding experience?

No. The horses are gentle and guided by local horsemen. Beginners are welcome. Your guide will assist with mounting, balance, and safety.

Is the glacier walk safe?

Yes — the glacier walk is short and non-technical. You’ll explore the edge of the Potanin Glacier with your guide. No special equipment is needed.

Are domestic flights included?

Domestic flights between Ulaanbaatar – Ölgii – Ulaanbaatar can be included depending on your package. We assist with ticket booking.

What vehicles are used for the trip?

4WD vans or jeeps (Soviet vans, Land Cruisers, or similar)

Yes, there is phone signal and internet available in some areas.

Can I charge my camera or phone?

Power is limited. Your driver will have an inverter when driving. (For bigger groups we provide electric generator.)
