Day 1: The Martian Landscapes (Ulaanbaatar to White Stupa)

  • Morning: Depart UB early. Stop at a local supermarket for final expedition supplies.

  • Afternoon: Arrive at Tsagaan Suvarga (White Stupa). These 30m-high limestone cliffs look like an ancient city or the surface of Mars.

  • Activity: Hike along the ridge for sunset photos.

  • Stay: Tourist Ger Camp.

Day 2: The Ice Canyon (Yolyn Am)

  • Morning: Drive toward the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park.

  • Afternoon: Explore Yolyn Am (Vulture Valley). This deep, narrow gorge is famous because it holds thick ice fields even in the middle of the desert summer.

  • Activity: 2-hour hike through the canyon. Watch for Ibex (wild goats) on the cliffs.

  • Stay: Tourist Ger Camp near Dalanzadgad.

Day 3: The Singing Sands (Khongoryn Els)

  • Morning: Scenic drive through the "Three Beauties" mountains.

  • Afternoon: Arrive at the Khongor Sand Dunes, the largest in Mongolia (up to 300m high).

  • Activity: Meet a camel-herding family, drink traditional milk tea, and go for a 1-hour Camel Trek along the green oasis.

Day 4: The Great Climb & Sunset

  • Morning: Relax at the camp or visit the Khongor River.

  • Afternoon: The ultimate Gobi challenge—climb the "Singing Dune". When the sand moves, it makes a humming sound like an airplane.

  • Highlight: Watch the sunset from the top of the dunes (breathtaking 360° views).

Day 5: Land of the Dinosaurs (Flaming Cliffs)

  • Morning: Drive to Bayanzag, known as the Flaming Cliffs.

  • History: This is where Roy Chapman Andrews discovered the first fossilized dinosaur eggs in 1923.

  • Activity: Walk through the red Sahsaul forest and explore the cliffs, which glow bright orange at sunset.

  • Stay: Tourist Ger Camp.

Day 6: The Secret Monastery (Ongi River)

  • Morning: Head north toward the Ongi Monastery ruins.

  • Afternoon: Explore the ruins of two massive monasteries destroyed in the 1930s. It’s a peaceful, spiritual place located on a rare riverbend in the Gobi.

  • Activity: Visit the small museum and hike to the hilltop stupa.

  • Stay: Gobi Oasis Ger Camp.

Day 7: Granite Formations (Baga Gazariin Chuluu)

  • Morning: Long drive back toward the Middle Gobi.

  • Afternoon: Reach Baga Gazariin Chuluu, a 15km long granite rock formation in the middle of the plains.

  • Activity: Explore the hidden valley ruins and the "Eye Spring" (local nomads believe the water heals eyesight).

  • Stay: Nomad Family Stay or Ger Camp.

Day 8: Return to the Capital

  • Morning: Final breakfast on the steppe.

How long is the driving each day?

The Gobi is vast, so expect to spend 4 to 6 hours in the vehicle on most days. However, we break up the journey with stops at scenic viewpoints, nomadic families, and local villages. We use high-quality 4x4 vehicles (Russian UAZ or Land Cruisers) with experienced drivers to ensure your comfort on off-road tracks.

What is the accommodation like in the desert?

You will stay in traditional Mongolian Gers. We use a mix of "Tourist Ger Camps" (which have shared hot showers and western-style toilets) and "Nomadic Family Gers" for a more authentic experience. Even in the remote Gobi, we prioritize camps with the best facilities and stunning views of the landscapes.

Will I have phone signal or Wi-Fi?

In the Gobi, phone signal. You will have a better signal in small towns like Dalanzadgad, also at the sand dunes and flaming cliffs.

Is the Gobi Desert too hot?

During the peak season (June–August), daytime temperatures can reach 30°C to 35°C. However, the Gobi is a "cold desert," meaning it cools down significantly at night. We plan our activities (like climbing the dunes or camel riding) for the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat.

What kind of food will the tour chef prepare?

In remote areas, a tour chef prepares simple international and Mongolian-style meals using fresh ingredients. In the Gobi Desert, meals are taken at local restaurants, ger camps, and with nomadic families along the route. Special dietary needs can be arranged with advance notice.
