First visited Mongolia (specifically Bayan Ulgii, the guide Yerlan’s hometown) in August 2023. Was an amazing authentic adventure for 1 week, so much so that I decided to go with Sayat Travel again when I wanted to go back to Mongolia this October 2024 (Darkhan and Erdenet) I requested to take a tour with him again. Yerlan is such a person that by the end of a long tour with him, you’ll end up actually being friends. I look forward to coming back to Mongolia again with them! If you are coming for the Kazakh ethnic group eagle hunters in Western Mongolia, I wholeheartedly recommend this because it is actually based in the area, unlike other operators that do it out of the capital, so there definitely a local touch that you won’t get elsewhere. I stayed in 4 different local families yurts which was surprisingly comfortable, and Yerlan provided also a portable shower and toilet for convenience which was super helpful. On the tour, there is also a cook who comes along as well, and the food is very good! Of course you may also eat the local nomad’s food as well, it goes well together. He helps book local flights to Ulgii/Khovd which is super helpful because the local airlines websites and booking systems don’t work well internationally. The second time I came to central Mongolia and he suggested to take the Soviet era sleeper train, and he also booked the ticket and came with, to make everything a smooth experience, and it was very enriching to take part of the Transmongolian train!
